KILLING COUGH SYRUP

MAIDEN PHARMA UNDER THE SCANNER

Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited a Delhi based Pharmaceutical company that exported defective cough syrup to Gambia, is said to be the prim cause of death of 66 children.

It is said that this company flouted the rules before also. It is reported that the company has been warned before for their medicines failing safety and quality parameters.

Their syrup contained diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. Both chemicals can be fatal for human bodies, as they can lead to severe liver and kidney damage. The WHO had issued an alert on the same.

Four syrups of Maiden Pharma were under the scanner but time and again the company said their drugs were not substandard.

The Kerala and Gujarat State governments had issued warnings to Maiden Pharma about the substandard quality of their drugs.

The cough syrups made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited in Haryana, which have been largely used for pediatric use, are believed to contain chemicals that are toxic and potentially fatal.

The Indian Health Ministry said the company only made these drugs for export.

ALL THE MORE it should be cautious as deaths around the globe attributed to Maidan Pharma would tarnish the image of the country globally especially since it is now emerging as one of the leading drug manufacturers in the world.

A life is a life whether in India or abroad.No one has the right to claim a life through devious means
