The power of writing

Writing is an important channel of communication. We learn it at an early age at school by learning the alphabet. The letters of the alphabet allow to write words. Grammar allows us to write sentences to express ideas.

Our first use of writing starts in school. It allows us to learn by taking notes and communicate our learning through writing assignments. Writing is used in all subjects learned in schools. We tend to think that writing isn’t important in mathematics. Writing in mathematics allows to better understand them and communicate what we learn. Writing mathematics notes allows to learn mathematics better. When we write the steps used to solve a mathematical problem we explain better the solution. During the time spent in school writing is used from taking notes to writing a thesis.

Writing is used for different purposes in daily life. We use it for communicating, taking notes, personal expression, personal reminders, etc. Before the internet age, we write letters to people who are far from us. We still continue to receive letters in our mail box. The post office mail is not going to disappear any time soon because institutions believe that writing documents are more important than electronic ones. We write in our daily notebook journal because it’s readier, more natural and confidential than the use of a software. Notebook planning calendars are still widely used.

Before the use of a computer, a typing machine was used to produce printing words. The computer and writing software eliminate the typing machine. Google have almost eliminated the first writing programs like Microsoft Word and different others. Google has even made its writing products both online and offline.

In the internet age, writing internet programs become useful and powerful tools for personal, academic, professional and social use. We can write in blogs, social media networks. educational media, different online news media, online academic journals, etc. Writing as a communication medium has survived during centuries. Millions of writing products have been produced in the form of books, papers, magazines. The number of writings has been growing since the creation of the internet. The freedom of speech has exploded through electronic writing expressions.

Electronic writing plays a great role in education. Educators prepare and plan their courses in writing electronically. Students write their assignments electronically before turning them in papers. Online courses are made possible thanks to online writing. Learners are able to learn any time anywhere through different online writings. Research is made easier thanks to several online writings in the internet.

While online videos are a powerful way of communication it cannot exclude writing as a traditional way of communication. In online learning, educational online videos are a good tool for learning but one cannot limit learning through vision and voice only. If some learners limit themselves only through oral lectures or videos, they miss a lot of useful writing products in the form of hard paper books, online books, online articles and papers. The advantage of learning through writing is that we can always refer to some interesting passages. We can annotate them. This is not possible in oral communication through writing. Online videos are powerful social ways of communication. In Education, while videos play a role they cannot exclude writing.

I have been writing online courses, blogs and in social media. Check out my writing products:
