Leave Facebook while you can

I deactivated my facebook a long time ago, probably 8 years ago. What I regret most, is not taking the step to fully delete my facebook when that option was available. It was only option for a small amount of time but I was unsure, figured at the time “hey maybe I should just deactivate just incase I want to go back to those old pictures from middle school”.

I don’t think I ever thought that ever again. Who would want to remember their middle school days? Certainly not me. Now facebook only allows the option to deactivate and not permanently delete.

Eight years later and Facebook is no longer the app it used to be. It was once a fun place for younger people to interact and have a good time on. But even at the age of 13, I realized the change in how things worked. Eventually everyone and their mother had a facebook. Literally. Parents and grandparents began to sign up to facebook as the website became one of the hottest trends in culture at the time.

Also, Facebook became a place not just used for fun and interacting, but it became a tool for work. People began to have facebook for professional uses and that usually signals the end of social media popularity. Facebook of course continued to be popular, but the demographic changed and the way people used it changed.

Now with the consistent breaches in security I’m ever more glad that im off facebook … or kinda off facebook. I know facebook still has the info i put in it 8 years ago, which yeah, I’m kind of embarrassed and upset about. But at least that information is no longer available for anyone to access legally, and at least I never added info after I turned 13.

Now facebook’s breaches have gotten widespread attention. Facebook’s security breach likely played a large role in the election of Donald Trump and acted as a safe haven for his supporters. Even after Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony in front Congress, facebook continues to have security breaches.

It’s noted in the article that primarily phone numbers and phone information was stolen are given to advertisers. Two-factor authentication which is supposed to protect information was actually the culprit in information being leaked. While that is seriously concerning, what is also scary is the other platforms that we’re logged into via Facebook could also be breached like Tinder or Instagram.
