Revealing The Sky

Today, I looked up at the sky and I lost it.

Not because I was sad, not because of anything.

I looked up and I saw the unyielding blue sky. Its cotton, hopeful wisps of white floating along the lazy river of infinity.

I realized that I hadn’t seen what was up there since I was a girl. And I felt that I was looking up at something I hadn’t pondered in years. 15 years.

No veil. No shawl. Nothing in between me and that sky. When I saw it, I realized I forgot how beautiful it was. But how?

I hadn’t seen it without a barrier in between. The veil was of sorrow, the shield of anger, all under a shadow of doubt.

For the first time in as many years as I remember, I saw the sky. And I lost it.
