Startup Tale

Gone are those days when 9–5 jobs attracted people. This is true with respect to the individuals who are multi-talented and find it hard to stick to an arena of fixed job with a ring-master juggling them with instructions throughout the day, 5 days a week and 22 days a month. The start-up dreams are booming with opportunities across all the domains, giving rise to many innovative and time-saving ideas, quickly transforming themselves into small start-up establishments.

It is a herculean task for the founders to put their idea into practice and hiring the right talent is certainly the toughest of all, for it forms the crux of the team. With the focused view on taking the idea to reality, it becomes a challenging task to diverge the energies in doing the recruitment job for me.

With my photography based start-up idea in my mind, I was already flooded with ideas, tasks-to-do, timelines and deadlines. I am undoubtedly a skilled photographer struggling to find out ways to make my mark in the world of photography. But when it came to establishing a start-up, lot of questions started bombarding me from nowhere.

Is there a dedicated place for start-up hiring? How do I recruit the best employee? The key to hiring best talent lies in the domain expertise of the recruiter. But with the limited technical knowledge I possess, I may not be the right one to do technical screening for a candidate who does a technical job for my application development. Also, with the current budget crunch, I cannot hire an HR team who can efficiently hire the best talent for me. The best hiring places available in the market might well be quite time-consuming, provided the time constraints I have, to set the things in place.

While I was in a grave dilemma, my friend Neeti came to me with a great idea that sounded just perfect for the moment. All we had to do was to reach out to our friends from our college days who are now settled in various roles of their interest. Varun, is a great application developer; Snigdha, a master of content writing; Neeti, HR head in her organization; Raghav, an expert in automated testing process. We have listed down all our friends and their areas of expertise. Within no time, we got in touch with each of them. I have scheduled a quick group conversation on Skype over the weekend, shared my idea with them and sought their help.
