The Beauty of Science.

Have you ever wondered why stars twinkle, or why the sky is blue in color, or how a rainbow forms? Or why water floats on lotus leaf like marbles? Science works in mysterious ways and has a reason for everything. The reason why these things happen the way they do and how amazingly they work makes science beautiful.

And what’s more astonishing is that science has a developmental aspect that makes it progressive. There was a time when nobody knew what an electron was. And now our world cannot run without electricity. We are making explorations in understanding infinitesimally small things like quarks and leptons to supermassive black holes. We can now remove organs from humans, put them back, cure them and make them live. We can precisely launch satellites and rovers and unveil the secrets of the cosmos. Now, isn’t it unbelievable to recollect that we once strongly believed that the earth was flat and one would fall off the edge if one went too far?

And yet there is so much to discover, interpret and understand. We never know when new cracks develop in our understanding and new questions arise.

Science is our understanding of how the earth works. Our development in a way is proportional to our knowledge of science. Science is now intertwined with every action we do. It is like an ocean, the more we know about it, the more there still is to know. In a way, science binds us together. Every country is different in its language, culture, and beliefs. But science overcomes these barriers. It brings countries together with every new discovery or difficulty. Knowledge is power and it crosses all borders.

Science gives us an appetite for wonder. It proves to be an inspiration showing the astonishing beauty of the world we live in. It made our lives easier and more comfortable and brought our dreams and imaginations true. But like every other thing in the world, there is a darker side to the coin. There are other viewpoints on science that cannot be overlooked.

Science is beautiful but also overpowering. With the invention of war weapons like nuclear weapons and atomic bombs, there is a constant threat to humanity. It makes us subject to disaster and discomfort. It is a cause of pollution and overexploitation and making man a slave to machines.

While there is both beauty and a sense of danger in science, it depends on how we choose it to be. For us humans, It is our choices…that show what we truly are far more than our abilities(Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets -J.K Rowling). Humans have the brains to devise complex machines and great theories. It is evident we are also capable of inventing things both viable and eco-friendly and making them work. The question here is of our choice. Hence whether science is a boon or bane to us, lies in our own hands. Science is nature’s own poetry. And since we are a part of nature and our lives depend on it, we must choose what is right. As Dr.Abdul Kalam beautifully put it, “Science is a beautiful gift to humanity, we should not distort it”.
