Love Letter

Erich Fromm said that love is a choice
That’s the furthest from the truth
Because If I wrote you a love letter I’d run out of ink
I’m in love with your mind
Inspired by how you think
Motivated
By how you’ve overcome all your struggles
And I like that you’ve never allowed them to break pieces away from your vehement puzzle
I wish you could see yourself for how I see you
But you see the parts of me that I see right through
Valient and tenacious
Intrepid in your pursuit of what makes your heart awaken
And there’s always interest when you return every piece of me that you’ve taken
I’ve searched but there’s no comparison to the factors that make up your equation
I’ve studied math and I still have no explanation
I used to ask “What is love and what does mean to you?”
I would follow that up with rhetorical questions

Until I saw a light in you that could probably make heaven jealous
And yet…
You see a light in me no matter how dark it seems when this picture develops…
I find your confidence enticing
A muse behind every song I sing
This is what it must feel like to have divine timing
Defining my manifestations with every fabric of your being
Your soul is electrifying
My heart was in a rut
Then you came along
Got me writing love letters and I find that exciting
You came along and found me
And I ain’t even know I was hiding
I don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to sleep
I don’t want to lose this time
Baby I don’t want to blink
I’m swimming in your love, I’m tempted to take a drink

If I wrote you a love letter
I won’t need to use ink
If I sang to the beat of your love
I won’t need to lip sync
Let me write it on your heart
You can tell me what you think

“I love you.” Oh that’s cool. Tell me something new
Whether you’re my wife, my father, or my homie
Just saying it isn’t enough, you gotta show me
Love is a fleeting feeling, that may migrate or dissipate
The actions that back it up are eternal and won’t disintegrate
Love is a baby you gotta feed, you’ve gotta nurture
Love is a gamble cause the other might just hurt you
It’s a noble pursuit, a lifestyle or a philosophy
It’s not a treasure you can own, or hold monopoly
If actions speak louder than words, then the question is:
If pictures are worth one thousand, how many are worth a kiss?
