TLet go

This is day 19 of my last 60 days of the year push. The idea is that I want to do what I can to finish the year strong and start 2019 with a good dose of momentum.

Today’s theme is “let go.” Specifically to let go of things that aren’t working for you anymore.

It can be very easy (I think) to stick with something because it’s convenient and familiar. Actaully sometimes the things we stick with aren’t even easy — we’re just used to them so instead of making a change we keep doing things that make us very unhappy.

About 2 years ago I signed up for an online course from a pretty well regarded person. Sadly it was a collosal waste of money but I did get one very helpful lesson. The instructor suggested looking at your day and your life for the things that annoyed you. Whatever they were no matter how small either try to get rid of them or make peace with them. I think that’s helpful advice.

Here’s another example that’s so much more mundane it’s about kitchen storage. Several years ago my in-laws gave me a gift of glass storage things. It was a very nice gift and I appreciated it. They had put a lot of though into it and this is something I use all the time. There’s just one problem. I actually hate what they bought me because I can’t close the dishes. They are something called Snapware and it’s a great theory but I can’t actually close them so every time I used them I am annoyed. Still — for years I didn’t toss it — I just kept using it even though it annoyed me. Until today and I feel better already.
